To New Canaan's First Selectman, Nov. 6 Was A Very Rough Day
The first-term Republican believes Democratic control in Hartford will not be a good thing for Connecticut.

NEW CANAAN, CT — In the sports world, one might consider this a "hot take" from Republican New Canaan First Selectman Kevin Moynihan, following Tuesday's election where Democrats held onto the Governor's Office and cemented their power in Hartford.
"It's horrible for New Canaan, it's made my job harder," said Moynihan during a press briefing Thursday. He was just getting warmed up.
He said he fears that communities like New Canaan, Darien, Greenwich and other affluent towns could see "an exodus of seniors," because under newly elected Gov. Ned Lamont and the Democrats he expects taxes to rise and tolls along the state's highways.

That potential exodus of older residents could hurt the real estate locally, the traditions and the culture that New Canaanites and citizens of other area towns have come to love.
"We lost two senior legislators [Republicans Toni Boucher and Fred Wilms]," which could impact New Canaan's influence in the legislature, Moynihan said, adding that he does not believe that Democratic control will be good for businesses in the state.

Though he doesn't believe the new governor would ever ask him, Moynihan's advice to Lamont - a fellow Fairfield County resident - would be, "Don't raise taxes, and eliminate the gift and estate tax."
