New Canaan's Joe Scarborough To Drop Republican Party Affiliation: VIDEO
He made the announcement Tuesday on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." See the video.

NEW CANAAN, CT — "Morning Joe" host and New Canaan resident Joe Scarborough, fed up with what he sees as the Republican party's constant betrayal of "its core values," told Stephen Colbert Tuesday night that he is finished with being a Republican.
Sitting next to fiancee and "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski, Scarborough said on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" that he will drop his Republican party affiliation to become an independent. Before his MSNBC show and television career, Scarborough was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Republican from Florida's 1st District. He served three terms from 1995-2001.
"Time and time and time again, they turn the other way, and they're doing the same thing now," said Scarborough of the Republican party, speaking about the lack of Republican leadership response to revelations from emails released by Donald Trump Jr. seemingly connecting him to Russian election interference. "It's actually disgusting, and you have to ask yourself, what exactly is the Republican party willing to do? How far are they willing to go? How much of this country or its values are they willing to sell out?"

To which Colbert asked, "But aren't you a Republican?"
"I am a Republican, but I'm not going to be a Republican anymore," said Scarborough. "I've got to become an independent."

Before the Colbert show broadcast, Scarborough posted several tweets on his Twitter page, foreshadowing his announcement about his decision to move on from the Republican party:

How long will Republicans subvert the best interests of their country to cover up for Donald Trump?

It's a shame there are so few Republicans speaking truth to power. Thank you @SenatorLankford, @SenJohnMcCain, @BenSasse & @LindseyGrahamSC. https://t.co/rzZKPKpiBK

For months, Scarborough and Brzezinski, whose late father served in the Democratic administration of President Jimmy Carter, have talked on-air of their disappointment in President Donald Trump, prompting the president to attack the two on Twitter.
