NEW CANAAN, CT — The late Fotis Dulos, accused of killing Jennifer Farber Dulos, cut his hair before he kidnapped his estranged wife in a possible attempt to frame one of his employees for the crime, writes the New Haven Register.

Jennifer Dulos vanished May 24, 2019, and authorities believe she was the victim of a violent attack in the garage of her New Canaan home at the hands of Fotis Dulos. The two were in the midst of an acrimonious divorce and child custody battle at the time of Jennifer's disappearance.

  • Fotis Dulos drove to New Canaan that morning in a red Toyota pickup truck owned by one of his employees, Pawel Gumienny;
  • Rode an old bicycle to Jennifer's house from Waveny Park in New Canaan where he parked the truck;
  • Attacked Jennifer in the garage after she dropped off their kids at school;
  • Bundled her body into her Chevrolet Suburban and drove it and the bike back Waveny;
  • Transferred her body and the bike to the pickup truck and drove off, leaving the Suburban in the park where police later found it.

Jennifer Dulos' body has not been found, though state and local law enforcement continue to pursue the case. In an exclusive report, the Register's Lisa Backus writes that authorities believe Fotis Dulos shaved his head prior to the killing in a possible attempt to resemble Gumienny, who also sported a similar haircut at the time.

Fotis Dulos later had the pickup truck washed and detailed, and he even instructed Gumienny to switch the truck's rear seats with ones from another of Fotis' vehicles. Gumienny later turned the original seats over the state police, and tests showed that Jennifer Dulos' DNA was on one of them.

In January, before he could stand trial, Fotis Dulos died by suicide. Beside the efforts to find Jennifer Dulos' remains, two other people have been accused of conspiring with Fotis in the killing.

Michelle Troconis, his former girlfriend, is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 1. Among other things, she is accused of helping to write "alibi scripts" to help Fotis, and traveling with him in Hartford to discard items that state police later recovered. Some of those items, including clothing and sponges, tested positive for Jennifer Dulos' DNA. Troconis is free on bond but continues to wear a GPS monitoring device and serve house arrest.

Kent Mawinenny, an attorney and former friend of Fotis', is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 24. The dates of case have been moved several times due to the coronavirus pandemic, and he remains in custody, unable to post bond on his bail of $2 million. He, also, is accused of assisting with Fotis' alibi.

Both Troconis and Mawhinney have pleaded not guilty.
