Pair Trespassed At New Canaan Apartment Construction Site: Police
The two were arrested near an old cemetery near the site off Maple Street.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A pair of New Canaan residents were arrested on charges of third-degree criminal trespass on Thursday afternoon after they refused to leave the Merritt Village construction site on Maple Street, according to New Canaan police.
Therese M. Spring, 79, of Gerrish Lane, and John G. Trifero, 66, of Silvermine Road, were arrested at about noon at the apartment complex. Spring was additionally charged with interfering with an officer.
Both were asked by the property owner and police to leave the construction site for their safety, but they allegedly refused and "remained on the property in the area of an old cemetery," according to police.

The site will house 110 apartments, and the developer must maintain three old burial grounds as a condition of town approval, but Spring and Trifero, two opponents of the project, went to the site to make sure the cemetery protected, reports the New Canaan News.
Both were released on promises to appear in Norwalk Superior Court later this month.
