St. Luke's Student's Path To Eagle Scout
St. Luke's sophomore spent more than 100 hours completing his Eagle Scout project of clearing and marking his school's running trails.
When St. Luke’s sophomore Andrew Kurth was contemplating which non-profit organization to help with his Eagle Scout project, he thought of St. Luke’s School. Andrew decided to clear and mark the SLS running trails—which were in desperate need of attention.
After dodging the rock-filled paths during a test run, Andrew thought, “this project has to be done.”
After 8 months and 118 hours of planning and hard work, Andrew and a small team of volunteers (including some SLS students) had moved 150-200 rocks ranging from coconut-sized to a 400-pound boulder. With pick axes, rock bar and 550 paracord loaned by the School, they transformed the running trails.

Andrew also used SLS 3-D printers to create new trail markers. When the project was complete, Andrew said he felt “relieved and a sense of accomplishment that the new trails would be really useful.”
Andrew added, “It was a great lesson in leadership learning how to direct others and lead by example.”
