Warning Issued For Possible Car Thefts In New Canaan: PD

The department says that it has received "intelligence" that the town could be hit by thieves tonight, Oct. 25.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan police are warning residents to lock their vehicles - and remove valuables - tonight, Oct. 25-26, because of the possibility that thieves could hit the town during the overnight hours.

The department issued the warning on its Twitter page, saying that it had received "intelligence" that a gang might attempt to steal vehicles.

New Canaan, like many Fairfield County communities, has experienced a rash of vehicle thefts and vehicle burglaries in recent months, including the recent recovery of a BMW stolen in New Canaan that was found in Southbury. Three juveniles were arrested in connection with that crime.

In many of the thefts and burglaries, vehicles had been left unlocked.
