New Haven Firefighters Battling Tuesday Afternoon 3-Alarm Newhallville House Fire (patch.com) — New Haven firefighters are battling a three-alarm house fire on Division Street in Newhallville, where flames have spread to a neighboring building and drawn a large emergency response that's blocking traffic between Dixwell and Winchester avenues. Mutual aid from East Haven is covering city fire stations while crews work to control the well-involved blaze that began on a porch of a three-family home.
   

2. Exploring the Jagged Edges of History: Graphic Novel 'The Black Schooner' Launch at New Haven Museum (patch.com) — New Haven residents are invited to a free September 30 launch event at the New Haven Museum for the graphic novel "The Black Schooner," which revisits the Amistad rebellion and its landmark trials held in the city. The program, part of Connecticut Freedom Trail Month, includes an educator workshop, discussion with the creators, and connects directly to the museum's "Amistad: Retold" exhibition focusing on New Haven's role in the story.
   

3. New Haven opens multi-generational community center to the underserved Hill section (nhregister.com) — New Haven has reopened the long-vacant Trowbridge Recreation Center in the Hill as a $3.8 million multi-generational hub for seniors, youth, and families. The renovated building and upgraded Trowbridge Square Park now offer classes, arts spaces, a food pantry, and gathering areas, giving this traditionally underserved neighborhood a nearby senior center and community space for the first time in decades.
   

4. CT regulator fines parking enforcer $30K for unlicensed collections in New Haven (hartfordbusiness.com subscription) — If you've ever gotten a steep private parking ticket in New Haven, a recent state ruling may matter to you. Regulators fined a Colorado parking enforcement company $30,000 for operating as an unlicensed collection agency at a Whitney Avenue lot and ordered refunds, saying its high penalty fees violated Connecticut's consumer protection rules.
   

5. Thieves steal AC units, copper piping from New Haven nonprofit (wfsb.com) — A New Haven nonprofit on Grand Avenue, Junta for Progressive Action, is facing nearly $19,000 in repair costs after thieves stole two rooftop AC condensers and copper piping. Coming on top of a recent $100,000 state funding loss, the theft could force cuts to food pantries, after-school programs, and other services for the 1,700 low-income immigrant families Junta supports.
