1. New Haven Man Accused Of Stabbing In Bridgeport: Police (patch.com) — New Haven readers may want to know that a 36-year-old city resident, Yannick Williams, was arrested in Bridgeport after police say he stabbed another man during a street fight on Iranistan Avenue. Officers reportedly recovered a bloodied knife, and the victim underwent emergency surgery at Bridgeport Hospital. Williams is being held on $100,000 bail and faces first-degree assault and other charges.
2. 'Big' Rats Take Over Apartment Complex In New Haven: Report (patch.com) — Residents at Kensington Square Apartments in New Haven say large rats are invading their homes, damaging belongings and raising safety fears for children. The management company is trapping rodents, sealing holes, and offering hotel stays and stipends, while Mayor Justin Elicker says the city has inspected the complex and calls the infestation totally unacceptable.
3. New Haven faces $8.5 million Board of Education deficit (wfsb.com) — New Haven's Board of Education is facing an $8.5 million deficit, which city leaders plan to cover using part of the $55 million rainy day fund to protect school services. Mayor Justin Elicker warns of rising transportation, special education, pension, and insurance costs, even as state and Yale funding grow and long-delayed school building repairs and legal payouts add financial pressure.
4. A major CT highway is about to renumber all of its exit signs. Here's where and what to expect. (courant.com) — If you drive I-91 to or from New Haven, prepare for all-new, mileage-based exit numbers as a major sign replacement project rolls out from Enfield down to the city starting October 15. Crews will work weekdays with lane and shoulder closures, updating more than 1,000 signs and improving nighttime visibility. Old exit numbers will stay posted for about two years to ease the transition and help GPS catch up.
5. Trivium Announce New Album "Crown in the Grave" + Share Video for Title Track (mhf-mag.com) — Trivium's upcoming North American tour includes a stop at College Street Music Hall in New Haven on November 11, giving local metal fans a chance to hear songs from their new album, "Crown in the Grave," live. The band describes the record as a darker, Japanese cinema-inspired evolution of their classic sound, crafted in their own Orlando studio. Tickets are on sale now for the stacked multi-band lineup.
