Keeping Warm

Connecticut Energy Assistance Program.

Living in CT we have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful Fall weather. We watch the leaves change and smell the change in the air. It’s a pleasant change from the heat and humidity of summer. However, it is also a reminder that before long, winter will be with us. The cost of living in Connecticut continues to rise and basic needs are more difficult to cover on fixed incomes. Older adults who live on fixed incomes can qualify for Ct Energy Assistance Program (CEAP). If your annual income is $45,505 or less ($59,507, couple) you can qualify to receive assistance with your home heating costs.

What does CEAP provide? Situations differ, so benefits differ but typically a household can receive benefits ranging between $180 and $530. These benefits are usually paid directly to your utility company or fuel supplier. Households that heat with deliverable fuels like oil or propane may be eligible for additional free tank fills.

Applying for benefits is simple. Your local Community action Agency can assist you with the application or you can go online if you prefer and complete an application. There are people at the Community Action Agencies who will assist you completing the application if you want. Some people are pre-qualified for CEAP based on the fact that they have submitted all the needed information for a different program and qualified for that program, but they still need to initiate an application for CEAP to receive the fuel benefit.

Call your local Community Action Agency and ask for assistance with an application. They are ready to assist you. The numbers for the Community Action Agencies are listed below.
