New Haven Public Schools Get $350K State Grant To Strengthen In-District Special Education Programming (patch.com) — New Haven families will see a boost in local special education services as the school district receives a $350,000 state grant under Connecticut's new High-Quality Special Education Incentive program. The funding will help expand in-district supports, reduce costly out-of-district placements, and strengthen inclusive classrooms, assistive technology, and specialized programs for students with disabilities in New Haven schools.

New Haven Business Permanently Closed: Attorney General (patch.com) — New Haven residents are seeing a strong enforcement message as state officials permanently close Anesthesia Smoke and Convenience and bar its owner from operating any business in Connecticut after repeated illegal cannabis sales. The New Haven Police Department and Mayor Justin Elicker both played roles in the case, highlighting the city's tougher stance on unlicensed cannabis and smoke shops that violate consumer protection rules.
   

3. New Haven Afterschool Initiative: Low Cost, Free Programming For Up To 2K, K-8 NHPS Students: Mayor (patch.com) — New Haven is launching a major Afterschool Initiative this school year, offering low-cost or free programs until 5:30 p.m. for up to 2,000 K–8 students in New Haven Public Schools. The city, school district, and local nonprofits are teaming up to provide daily enrichment, sports, and mentoring at elementary and middle schools across town.
   

4. New Haven teen arrested after deadly 2024 shooting in city: Police (fox61.com) — New Haven police have arrested 17-year-old Thaddeus Lowery in connection with the 2024 shooting death of 25-year-old city resident Christopher Santana behind 730 George St. Lowery faces murder and related charges in adult court, with bond set at $2 million. City officials plan a press conference Thursday at 1 p.m. at police headquarters to share more details with residents.
   

5. Damage from storms to Lighthouse Point Park forces brides to reassess wedding plans (wfsb.com) — Storm damage at New Haven's Lighthouse Point Park has left upcoming weddings in limbo, forcing couples like Veronica Matos and her fiancé to search for new venues before October. A Branford farm is stepping in to host displaced "Lighthouse brides," offering full ceremony and reception space while they scramble to keep long-planned dates and family traditions intact.
