New Haven Teen To Be Charged As Adult In December 2024 Fatal Shooting: New Haven Police

NEW HAVEN, CT—A 17-year-old has been charged with murder in an early December 2024 daytime fatal shooting, police said.

The teen is being charged as an adult, according to New Haven police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart.

Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Justin Elicker and Police Chief David Zannelli are set to provide an update on the case.

Christopher Santana, 25, was shot and killed around 3:30 p.m. after he drove a friend to the rear of 730 George St., where police said they were "approached by two men wearing masks, one of whom abruptly shot him before both males fled on foot."

When officers arrived at the scene, Santana, who was found lying on the ground, was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The case was assigned to Detective Jeremy Cordero, of the Major Crimes Unit, working under the supervision of Sergeant Jonathan Pleckaitus.

Cordero was able to develop probable cause to arrest teen Thaddeus Lowery for the homicide, police said. He was taken into custody Aug. 12 and charged with murder, murder in the commission of a felony, and carrying a pistol without a permit, police said.

Lowery's case has been transferred to adult court, according to Bruckhart, and he is being held on a $2,000,000 bond.

At Wednesday's news briefing, members of Santana’s family will be in attendance, police said.
