Gov.: $1M Grant Earmarked For Veterans Coliseum Site Redevelopment

The site of the former New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum, shuttered in 2007, will be redeveloped with a $999,000 state grant.

NEW HAVEN, CT —The site of the former New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum, shuttered in 2007, will be redeveloped with a $999,000 Department of Economic and Community Development’s Brownfield Remediation grant, it was announced Wednesday.

Gov. Ned Lamont, joined by New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker, state Senate President Pro Tempore Martin M. Looney (D-New Haven), state economic development Deputy Commissioner Matthew J. Pugliese, noted that a a 277,435-square-foot Class A life sciences and tech office building is to be constructed on the site.

Funded by the grant, soil remediation, excavation, and disposal of impacted soils at the 0.8-acre parcel are to be done.

The three-phase project, with the first and second phases consisting of mostly residential spaces.
