Historic New Haven Restaurant Reopens For Takeout

A favorite New Haven restaurant, which had closed its doors last month, has reopened for takeout.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Louis' Lunch, the city's classic hamburger restaurant, has announced that it will reopen for takeout only starting Tuesday.

The restaurant posted the following on Facebook:

"It’s time to reopen!! Thank you all for your patience as we got everything in order to get open again! Starting Tuesday, 4/28 we will be open Tuesday-Saturday from 4-8pm for takeout only. Please call your order in ahead at 203-562-5507 and you’ll be given a time for pick up. We are also now accepting credit cards! We have ensured that we have everything in place to keep you and our staff safe while providing you with the absolute best burger! We are also on Instagram! Give us a follow @louislunch_ct!"

In 2016, Louis' Lunch was named as the official birthplace of the hamburger, a distinction many restaurants across the country have claimed. The Library of Congress declared that Louis' Lunch served up the first hamburger and steak sandwich in U.S. history 100 years ago.
