New Haven Woman, 42, Stabbed To Death In Orange Ave. Apartment, Ex-Boyfriend Charged With Murder: NHPD

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 42-year-old New Haven woman was stabbed to death Wednesday afternoon inside her Orange Avenue apartment, and police have charged her "ex-boyfriend" with murder, according to police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart.

Police said that just before 3:30 p.m., Tisha Marinoccio reported to police that she'd been stabbed inside her 6th-floor apartment at 358 Orange St. She told dispatchers that he lived in the building and left her apartment with the weapon, Bruckhart said.

When officers got there, they found Marinoccio "inside her apartment suffering from a stab wound to her left side," Bruckhart said.

While "alert and conscious," she was "bleeding heavily" and became "less responsive as medical personnel arrived," police said.

She was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries, Bruckhart said, adding her family has been notified.

Cops searched the area and found Matthew Almontes, 39, and "immediately detained him," Bruckhart said. Officers also found the knife he used inside a dumpster in the rear alley of the apartment building, police said.

"Surveillance footage showed the perpetrator entering and exiting the victim’s apartment as well as exiting the rear of the apartment building, where he discarded an unknown object inside the rear-alley dumpster," Burckhart said.

Almontes was taken into custody and charged with murder and tampering with evidence, police said. He's being held on a $1,500,000 bond.
