Pedestrian Killed in New Haven Crash

The pedestrian stepped off a curb and into incoming traffic.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Police are investigating after a 58-year-old man was killed following a crash.

Police were dispatched to Ellta T Grasso Boulevard between Adeline and Frank Streets shortly before 10 a.m. Oct. 28.

A driver called and said he'd struck a man that was walking in the road, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

Manuel Bonilla-Torres suffered significant injuries, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital and declared dead.

The 31-year-old driver from East Haven told officers he was driving southbound when Bonilla-Torres left the curb and walked into the travel lane, Hartman said. He said he didn't have time to stop. A witness gave the same account.

The driver has a valid license, wasn't intoxicated and wasn't traveling too fast. So far investigators have determined the driver isn't at fault.
