Popular New Haven Restaurant Closes Due To Pandemic
A downtown New Haven eatery will not be reopening.
NEW HAVEN, CT — Vietnamese restaurant Duc's Place has closed its doors for good, marking another loss for business due to the pandemic, according to the New Haven Independent. The restaurant, located at 167 Orange St., closed due to the collapse in revenue following the mid-March shutdown, which meant they couldn't cover rent and utilities.
Duc Nguyen, a Westville resident, opened the restaurant in 2016, specializing in Vietnamese street food such as banh mi. Nguyen told the Independent that he applied for the first round of the federal Paycheck Protection Program to cover costs but was denied a loan.
The restaurant garnered 4.5 stars on Yelp. One reviewer said: "Absolutely great. This place is a little hidden but it's such a gem."
