NEWINGTON, CT — Here are some recent accomplishments of college and university students from Newington, as provided by readMedia Newswire.
- WILLIMANTIC, CT — Forty-nine exemplary psychology students from Eastern Connecticut State University presented their research on Dec. 11 at the department's annual Psychological Science Night.
Among the students who presented was Tia Massa of Newington, who majors in Psychology. Mentored by Psychology Professor Joseph Dracobly, Massa's research project was titled "Relationship between Sleep Quality, Stress Levels, and Physical Activity." - WILLIMANTIC, CT — Eastern Connecticut State University recently hosted its annual Scholarship Reception in the Fine Arts Instructional Center. The event brought together major ECSU Foundation scholarship donors and their respective student-recipients. This year students were awarded scholarships, totaling more than $600,000 in financial aid to students of all backgrounds and academic majors. Newington students selected to receive scholarships, along with their majors, are Jena Cardoso (Mathematics), Stephen Cowell (History), Madison Forsander (English), Nicole Rivera (Theatre) and Marlene Suarez (Sociology).
- WILLIMANTIC, CT — Nicole Rivera of Eastern Connecticut State University helped christen the brand new Proscenium Theatre with an inaugural performance of "Cervante's Pedro, The Great Pretender." The historic occasion - the first major production of the Theatre Program to occur in that venue - took place within Eastern's new Fine Arts Instructional Center from Nov. 8 to 13. The classic play by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, a playwright of the Spanish Golden Age, follows the tricks of Pedro, a master pretender whose escapades involve him with a slew of characters and careers as he struggles to find his true vocation in life. Rivera majors in Theatre with a concentration in Design, Technology and Management. In "Pedro," Rivera was the stage manager.
