NEWINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable achievements for college students from Newington, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • The directing work of advanced theatre students at Eastern Connecticut State University was on display recently for "Short Stuff," an annual showcase of student-produced short plays. Written by established playwrights such as David Ives and Jon Jory, the plays featured in the showcase ran the gamut of genres and themes, with all acting and behind-the-scenes functions performed by students. Nicole Rivera of Newington directed "Broken Hearts," originally written by Kevin R. McLeod. Rivera majors in theatre with a concentration in design, technology and management.

Nichols College, Dudley MA

  • McKayla Pratte, an Accounting major from Newington, has achieved Dean's High Honors for the fall 2016 term at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. The Nichols College Dean's List recognizes students who have achieved high grades during a single semester. In order to be included in the Dean's List, a student must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.2 for at least 12 credit-hours and receive no grade below a C+ during the semester. A student who earns a grade point average of 3.6 or higher is awarded Dean's High Honors.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

  • A pair of students from Newington graduated from Western New England University on Feb. 15, 2017. They are Brett Gotowala, Master of Science in Accounting-Forensic Accounting/Fraud Investigation Concentration, and Kristen Kenney, Bachelor of Science-Mathematical Sciences.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • Brian Amato of Newington was recognized by the New England Wrestling Association following the 2016-17 campaign. Amato (19-9), a 2015 All-America, won the RIT Invitational and capped his outstanding career with 64 dual meet victories, the second most in program history. He was also named Academic All-NEWA.
