The suspect briefly scuffled with police officers upon being taken into custody, according to a police spokesman.

NEWINGTON, CT — Halloween night ended badly for a South Windsor man who is accused of breaking into a Newington home, assaulting an 85-year-old man, crashing a vehicle into a tree, getting into an argument with another person and ultimately scuffling with police officers.
William McAllister III, 22, is charged with home invasion, second-degree burglary, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault on an elderly victim. He was held overnight in lieu of $10,000 bond, and was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in New Britain Superior Court.
Around 11:20 p.m., police responded to a location on West Hartford Road for a complaint of someone attempting to break into a residence. As police were responding to the scene, an officer located McAllister walking in the roadway. McAllister approached the officer, who was still seated in his vehicle, and failed to obey the officer’s commands by continuing to approach the officer as he was exiting his cruiser, Sgt. Christopher Perry said.

A physical altercation between McAllister and the officer ensued, and with the assistance of two other responding officers, McAllister was taken into custody, Perry said.
Investigation revealed McAllister initially forced entry into the home of an 85-year-old man on West Hartford Road. After assaulting the homeowner, McAllister fled the scene in his own vehicle and crashed into a tree a short distance away. He walked away from his vehicle and began arguing and attempting to fight with another resident in the neighborhood, Perry said.
