Accounting for Sailfest Expenses Promised by New London Officials

NEW LONDON, CT – Officials promised this week to get a better accounting of the city’s cost for hosting the annual Sailfest event, The Day reported.

Mayor Michael Passero said he planned to ask Finance Director Don Gray to compile data from this year’s event, The Day reported. Passaro also intends to ask an accounting system be devised to track expenditures for the event in future years.

A cost estimate of $202,745 was compiled by the city finance department, according to The Day. It was stated, however, that it was not what the city spent, and rather an estimate of what it would cost if Sailfest were put on as a private event.
