AT&T to Close New London Office
The utility company says they are consolidating their workforce and that all affected employees will be offered positions elsewhere.
AT&T employees in New London recently learned that their company is closing the their office in one month causing 78 of them to commute to New Haven or to be laid off.
And that’s not all. According to the Hartford Courant, AT&T is cutting 36 cable-splicers and 17 telephone directory workers.
New London Mayor Daryl Finizio and State Rep. Ernest Hewett stood outside with the company’s Captain’s Walk location and protested the closure along with AT&T employees, according to The Day.

AT&T employees told reporters at The Day that “AT&T’s moves are part of a ‘continuing failure’ by the company to maintain minimum service levels in Connecticut.”
The Hartford Courant reports that the company has eliminated thousands of jobs in Connecticut in the past decade and that reduced staff is the reason why the company is not providing adequate service in this area.
