Delivery Food Scam Results in Arrest of Four Juveniles: Police

More arrests are expected, New London Police said.

Alleged scams involving restaurant deliveries and one alleged break-in resulted in the arrest of four juveniles, not named due to their age.

New London Police Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said officers and a school resource officer investigated the incidents listed below. Together, officers developed leads using surveillance video. Through multiple interviews, they were able to develop several juvenile suspects that resulted in the Saturday, Oct. 25, arrests below.

Four juveniles — one 14-year-old and three 15-year-olds — were arrested and charged with robbery in the second degree and larceny in the sixth degree, related to an alleged incident that took place at 10:20 p.m. Oct. 8.

The juveniles reportedly called a local Chinese food restaurant and ordered a large amount of food to be delivered to a vacant house on Cape Ann Court, Reichard said.

When the driver arrived, one of the juveniles grabbed the food and when the driver attempted to hold on to them, the juvenile allegedly attempted to assault him, according to police. The four juveniles then ran off with the food.

Those same four juveniles were also arrested and charged with larceny in the second degree after they reportedly called Domino’s Pizza at approximately 9:20 p.m. Oct. 13.

They asked for a large order to be delivered to the same vacant address and when the driver arrived, one of the juveniles said he had to go inside.

When the driver got out of the vehicle, another juvenile allegedly smacked the food out of her hand and ran off with the food.

The same four juveniles were again arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary in the third degree and criminal mischief in the second degree, for an alleged incident that occurred at 11:56 p.m. Oct. 13.

The juveniles allegedly attempted to break into the Honey Plus Market, 393 Colman St. They allegedly used a cinder block to try and break the glass and when that did not work, they attempted to kick through the glass, Reichard said.

Prior to gaining entry into the store, an employee from a business across the street contacted police and the juveniles fled.

Those four juveniles and one additional 15-year-old juvenile was also arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree and criminal mischief in the second degree.

More arrests are expected. Anyone with information is asked to call the New London Police Department at 860-447-5269.
