eBay Tuesday: Rajai Davis Baseball Cards

I suppose I could resent Rajai Davis for contributing to the continuing lackluster season of the Boston Red Sox; the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Sox in weekend games, keeping Beantown way down in the American League East cellar. But Davis has New London roots and has inflicted some major blows against the New York Yankees, so he may just have a new fan.

This week's auction item, offered by user cromeman, is a pair of baseball cards showing Davis during his time with the Oakland A's. Davis has been with four professional teams since debuting in Major League Baseball in 2006.

Davis, 31, was born in Norwich but came to for his freshman year. He played football, basketball, and baseball and graduated in 1999 before attending the University of Connecticut at Avery Point. According to the MLB stats, Davis played with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2006 to 2007, the San Francsico Giants from 2007 to 2008, and the Oakland A's from 2008 to 2010. He's been with the Blue Jays since last year's season.

As the season nears its end, Davis has racked up 57 runs, batted in 38 more, and scored seven home runs. He's also stolen 41 bases, has a batting average of .246, and an on-base percentage of .306. In his major league career, Davis has scored 295 times, belted out 20 homers, tallied up 195 RBIs, and stolen 218 bases. His career batting average is .268, while that on-base percentage is .317.

Perhaps the most impressive play Davis has made is this incredible leap to deny the Yankees a home run in a 10-7 victory for the Jays on Aug. 12. Davis also had five RBIs in this game. In other recent games, Davis had a homer and three RBIs in a 6-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 5 and scored the winning run against the Red Sox in Sunday's 4-3 game.

The starting bid for the cards is one dollar plus $1.50 for shipping. The auction ends at about 5:50 p.m. on Thursday.
