Autonomy, Gender and Zapatismo - Struggles for a New Politics

This talk, by Tom Hansen, will focus on autonomous community organizing as exemplified by the Zapatistas, the Mexican revolutionary group fighting on behalf of the country’s impoverished indigenous population. Hansen is the executive director and co-founder of the Mexico Solidarity Network, the Autonomous University of Social Movements and the Albany Park Autonomous Center in Chicago. He is an experienced organizer, having worked with organizations such as Pastors for Peace, the Veterans Peace Convoy and the New York-Nicaragua Construction Brigade, 4 p.m., Charles E.
