Expressiones Holding Open House In New Space
Gallery moves to Bank Street location

A downtown art gallery will celebrate its second year in New London, as well as its relocation to a more spacious venue, in an on Saturday.
—a  cultural center and art gallery promoting Latin American music, art, and customs—has moved to 84 Bank Street, the space formerly occupied by and . The open house will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Guido Garaycochea, curator of the gallery, said in a press release that the new space allows for more activities, including a film screening room and conference area. He said there has been growing interest in the center and hopes that this trend will continue with their expanded programs.

“We hope that this Open House will serve as a starting point for our continued efforts to bridge the divide between the Latino and Anglo communities in and around New London and allow us to celebrate and embrace diversity,” said Garaycochea.
The evening will feature “Faces of New London,” a collection of artwork by Latino children taking part in the gallery’s summer programs. The children were encouraged to photograph the city and recreate the images in paintings.

From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., there will be guided tours of the new space. These will visit the main gallery, the multipurpose lower floor, workshop, and apartment to be used for artists-in-residence and visiting artists.
At 7 p.m., installation artist Diane Barceló and poet Michael Bradford will share work completed during a trip to southern Spain. Bradford will read six poems by Spanish poet Garcia Lorca, while Barceló’s photography takes in behind-the-scenes aspects of bullfighting, such as infirmaries where injured toreadors are taken and the sterile room where bulls are slaughtered.
