Firefighters Respond To Furnace Fire In New London: FD
Red Cross officials said they are providing assistance to those affected by the fire.

NEW LONDON, CT — The American Red Cross is helping one adult after a fire Wednesday on Jefferson Avenue. They will provide assistance to meet the unidentified person's immediate needs, according to a release.
New London Firefighters reported the fire Wednesday on Twitter, which they described as a furnace fire in the basement at 250 Jefferson Avenue.
Red Cross officials said they will also be providing comfort kits containing personal care items a resident might not have been able to gather in a rush to escape a fire, such as toothbrushes, deodorant and shaving supplies.

A recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire will also be provided. These include tips on cleanup, notification of important contacts, dealing with damaged items and more.
Officials said the affected person will meet with Red Cross caseworkers in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan.
