Firefighters Rescue Person Trapped Under Tree, Downed Wires

Firefighters rescued a person trapped under a fallen tree and downed power wires. Police warn about downed wires

NEW LONDON, CT —

A person trapped under a storm-toppled tree with power downed wires and lines was rescued by New London firefighters Thursday morning.

The first report came in around 9 a.m. that a person was trapped under a tree on Ocean Avenue and Shirley Lane.

The person was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

It was around 9 a.m. when New London Emergency Service personnel responded to the report of person pinned underneath a fallen tree with possible live wires, New London police said.

The person was located, police said, and "extracted from underneath the tree and transported to the the hospital" with what was reported as non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Eversource "secured power in the vicinity to ensure a safe area."

Police said people should steer clear of fallen lines.


From the onset of the storm and overnight, police, rescue and firefighters were busy with rescues, including one of a man trapped in his basement.
