Food Bank, City Of New London To Distribute 30K Meals
The event is taking place Wednesday.

NEW LONDON, CT — The Connecticut Food Bank in partnership with New London Mayor Michael Passero’s Office will distribute 30,000 meals Wednesday. Drive-through distribution will take place at Fort Trumbull in New London. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Cars will line up along East Street and follow a path down Bowditch Street to Smith Street and Chelsea Street where the food will be placed in open trunks in a touchless distribution. A second distribution at 90 Garfield Avenue will serve people without vehicles.
Food insecurity in Connecticut has increased significantly during the Coronavirus pandemic, according to a statement from the city. Research from Feeding America projects that food insecurity in New London County will rise this year by 50%. Child food insecurity is expected to increase by more than 62%, from nearly 9,000 children to more than 14,500 children – one in four – in New London County.

Connecticut Food Bank provides food to people in need in Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Windham counties through a network of partners and programs that offer a combined 500 food access points. In New London County last year, Connecticut Food Bank through more than 90 partners and programs distributed nearly 3.1 million pounds of food.
