Former New London Star Signs Contract Extension With Redskins

The former Whaler quarterback signed an extension worth up to $50 million.

NEW LONDON, CT - Following a breakout season in the NFL in 2015, New London High School product Jordan Reed has entered the financial stratosphere.

The Washington Redskins extended the contract of the tight end for five years, in a deal worth up to $50 million.

Reed, who quarterbacked the Whalers to an undefeated regular season in 2007 and a runnerup finish in Class S, was a finalist for the Joe Montana High School Quarterback of the Year award before going on to play at the University of Florida, where he was converted to a tight end. He was drafted by the Redskins in 2013.

In 2015, Reed caught 87 passes for 952 yards, a Redskins record for tight ends, and 11 touchdowns in the regular season, then made nine receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown in a playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.

He will turn 26 years old on July 3.
