Robert Rapier at the Consumer Energy Report says high oil and gas prices are a result of production not keeping up with demand in developing countries. The pipeline operator Energy Transfer Partners LLC has also announced that it will buy Sunoco Inc. for $5.3 billion, according to the Calgary Herald.
Both the national and state averages for a gallon of regular grade gasoline fell a penny over the weekend, according to ConnecticutGasPrices.com. The state average stands at $4.08, the national average at $3.81. The cheapest reported station in the state on Monday morning was a Stop & Shop in Milford with a price of $3.84.

Prices have dipped back below $4 in New London, if you're willing to make cash payments at the on Broad Street; the price there is $3.99. Across the street, sets its price at $4.03. Elsewhere, most stations have set their price at $4.09.
In Groton, the Hess on Route 12 is the cheapest station at $4.02 a gallon. This is followed by $4.03 at the Gulf on Mitchell Street and $4.08 at the Shell on Route 12. Waterford prices have also gone into the barely below $4 range with $3.99 at the BJ's on Cross Road. The next lowest price is $4.09, at the Henny Penny on Boston Post Road and Shell on the Hartford-New London Turnpike.
