Harris Interactive Survey Shows Commuting Leads Private Life Issues...

It was recently published on LinkedIn by HubSpot’s Founder and CTO (and getting lots of attention) that a recent study by Erika Sandow at Umeå University in Sweden concluded long-distance commuting (and commuting in general) can pose to a healthy marriage. In the six-year study of Swedish couples, partners with long commutes (45 minutes or more) were 40% more likely to get divorced than those with little or no commute.

Business travel puts great strain on marriage and can contribute to added stress on your relationships. This most recent Swedish analysis follows on the heels of a Harris Interactive survey that finds 70% of those surveyed felt too much time away from home on business trips can lead to divorce.
It explains that every minute not spent commuting or traveling for business adds a precious minute to a marriage, family or relationship. A quick calculation shows how much valuable time is lost: a 1.5 hour round trip commute each day adds up to 47 workdays a year. In the life of a new baby, 375 hours includes all those magical moments—crawling, first steps and first words. It can be very difficult see your toddler’s milestones on the small screen of a cell phone.
