Lawrence & Memorial Stroke Center Earns Plaudits
State and national organizations recognize efforts of New London medical center

State and national organizations have recognized the Stroke Center for excellence in treatment of patients.
The hospital has been an advanced primary stroke center since 2007, but the state recently redesignated it as a primary stroke center. There are 21 other designated primary stroke centers in the state, according to the Connecticut Department of Public Health. The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association also recognized the center with a "Stroke Gold Plus" quality achievement award.
The hospital says strokes are the leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer, and that the stroke center ensures proper diagnosis and treatment of the condition. Lawrence & Memorial Hospital also has an agreement with Yale-New Haven Hospital for the latter hospital to provide an on-call neurologist 24-7 to assist with stroke interventions via computer.

“These honors, coming almost at the same time, show that the hard work and dedication of our staff is paying off,” said Dr. Daniel Moalli, medical director of the stroke center, in a statment. “With a stroke, time lost is brain lost. The honors we have received demonstrate L&M’s commitment to being one of the top hospitals in the country for providing aggressive, proven stroke care.”
