Three years after a child drowned at a New London beach on the Fourth of July, an attorney is calling for changes.

NEW LONDON, CT- An attorney for a young drowning victim’s estate has filed a lawsuit that calls for the city to make safety improvements and policy changes at the beach, the Westerly Sun reported.

The suit, which was filed in December 2014, calls out the city for willful negligence and reckless conduct by allowing people on the beach after lifeguards have left and not securing the beach after hours.
Beroundy was found drowned on July 4, 2013 while at the beach with his grandparents, according to The Day. The city’s beaches close at 5 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m.on weekends, though the city has recently allowed guests to swim at their own risk after the beach has closed lifeguards have left.
