Man Grows Bamboo, Considers Civil Action Against New London
A New London man facing a criminal charge for growing bamboo is considering suing the city.

NEW LONDON, CT — A New London man facing a criminal charge for growing bamboo is considering suing the city, the New London Day reported. Carlos Carrion's attorney said his client has filed a notice of intent to sue the city on grounds that officials are unfairly harassing him over his plants.
Carrion was originally cited last year by the city's blight officer for not trimming the towering bamboo forest that has been growing on his property for decades, according to the New London Day. Carrion lives at 16 Borodell Place.
A blight hearing last year ruled Carrion was in violation of the city property maintenance code and needed to trim the plants, however city officials said he refused to do so, the New London Day reported. He received a criminal charge as a result, however Carrion later filed his notice of intent to sue on Jan. 5.
