Man Raises Bat At Officers: New London Police

Police said two men charged with smashing windows in New London were arrested after one of the suspects raised a baseball bat at officers.

NEW LONDON, CT - Police said two men charged with smashing windows in New London were arrested after one of the suspects raised a baseball bat at officers, the New London Day reported. The incident occurred Wednesday around 10:30 p.m., police said.

Police said officers responded to Montauk Avenue after receiving reports of a group of men smashing windows in the area, according to the New London Day. Officers subsequently located two men, 49-year-old Leonard Fraiter and 55-year-old Dennis Higgins, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

Police said Fraiter raised a baseball bat he was holding when officers approached, causing them to believe he might strike them, the New London Day reported. Police said Fraiter had to be secured and taken down, while Higgins was arrested without incident.
