More Than 100 Citations Issued By Police During Click It Or Ticket Campaign In New London

New London police officers issued over 100 citations for failure to wear a seat belt during the department's Click It or Ticket campaign.

NEW LONDON, CT - New London police officers issued 147 citations for failure to wear a seat belt during the department's Click It or Ticket campaign. The initiative ran from May 22 to June 4, according to a release.

During this period, officers issued citations and made arrests during traffic stops. Police also handed out 105 infractions for traffic violations other than seat belts, eight misdemeanor summonses, performed two warrant arrests and engaged in a foot pursuit that resulted in the seizure of nearly a pound of marijuana. "Law Enforcement efforts and public education initiatives like Click It or Ticket are an effective tool to enhance safety along our roadways,” Acting Chief of Police Peter Reichard said in a release. “Throughout the year, our goal is not to write citations. We want to prevent traffic crashes and injuries as part of the statewide goal to attain zero fatalities on Connecticut roads.”
