The New England Cognitive Center (NECC), a non-profit organization that develops and distributes innovative research-based cognitive fitness programs, was recently honored with a 2013 MindAlert Award from the American Society on Aging (ASA) for its groundbreaking Mind Aerobics Suite of cognitive programs for early-state, cognitively impaired older adults. Sponsored by the MetLife Foundation, the award was presented to NECC Executive Director Patti Said during a national ASA conference in Chicago.
The award-winning NECC Mind Aerobics Suite provides older adults with comprehensive mental workouts that maintain or improve cognitive functioning. The programs are designed to meet the needs of a broad range of older adults, from those at normal levels to those with moderate Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The Mind Aerobics Suite is made up of several levels of programs, which provide participants with a full brain workout. These programs focus on cognitive training that stimulates the six major cognitive domains: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
In addition to this prestigious award, 2013 is shaping up to be a milestone year for NECC. The organization has updated its website, upgraded its programs to CD/DVD, and facilitated a one-hour webinar, “Fight Back: NECC Cognitive Programs for Battling Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.” Later this year, NECC programs will be translated into Spanish for the first time, making programs more accessible to millions of people across the United States and around the world.
