New London City Council Inquires Actual Cost of Annual Sailfest Event

NEW LONDON, CT – City council began an inquiry into the true costs of the annual Sailfest event Monday, The Day reported.

Sailfest is the city’s biggest yearly event, which many would consider New London’s signature event, The Day reported. The city will calculate a number of factors, including the overtime worked by police, fire and utility workers.

One issue brought up Monday was that the city absorbs the cost of overtime into the budget, The Day reported. Sailfest organizer Barbara Neff noted that the event is not about making money, but more about bringing together the community and calling attention to all New London has to offer.
