New London Considers Pay-Per-Bag Trash Program

New London officials' pitch to implement a pay-per-bag trash program recently drew mixed reactions from residents.

NEW LONDON, CT — New London officials' pitch to implement a pay-per-bag trash program drew mixed reactions from residents Wednesday, the New London Day reported. The city made its first public pitch during an informational forum at the Science and Technology Magnet High School.

The program would require New London residents to buy official city trash bags to dispose of their garbage, according to the New London Day. The aim of the program would be to reduce the amount of trash the city produces and increase recycling.

The proposed program drew mixed reactions from the more than 100 residents who attended the forum, the New London Day reported. While some were pleased the city was considering ways to improve the city's recycling rate, others were dismayed at the thought of paying more for a service already paid for in taxes.
