New London Emergency Crews Rescue Woman from Thames River

A woman had to be rescued after falling in the water.

NEW LONDON, CT- A woman was rescued from the Thames River early Thursday morning, according to media reports.

Fire officials said the woman fell after trying to get into her boat, which was docked at the Thamesport Marina, NBC Connecticut reported. She then slipped and fell in the water.

The rescue took place in the area behind Fred Shanty’s restaurant on Pequot Avenue, News 8 reported. Police and firefighters worked together to pull the woman to safety.

The woman was initially found by emergency crews clinging to her boat, unable to pull herself out of the water, according to NBC Connecticut. She was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital to be checked out after spending about a half an hour in the water, although she appeared unharmed.
