NEW LONDON, CT — A New London family devastated by a fire that destroyed their home is asking for help from the local community, The Day reported. The Johnson family was asleep at their 214 Thames St. home Saturday morning when a fire broke out.

The family managed to escape the blaze without serious injuries. However, their home has been deemed uninhabitable and nearly all their possessions were destroyed.

Robin Johnson wrote on the GoFundMe page: "Hello my name is Robin this morning we were woken up to an electrical fire that started in our bathroom. me and my family were able to make it out just in time. We have been displaced because of a house fire .I have 2 young children. we are looking for anyone to be able to help us during this difficult time. so we can be able to get back on our feet. Thank you."
