Firefighters said the blaze caused "extensive damage" to a two-family residence in New London.

NEW LONDON, CT – Firefighters battled a house fire Sunday evening that broke out at a two-family Squire Street residence, causing "extensive damage," the New London Day reported. The incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m.

Firefighters said Sunday evening on Twitter they were operating at a "second alarm fire" with mutual aid from Waterford, Sub Base, Mohegan Tribe, Poqunnock Bridge firefighters, as well as Groton ambulance personnel.

According to the New London Day, a neighbor said the incident occurred after an incense stick on a second-floor porch fell onto a table full of papers. Fire officials said the people who live in the house and their dogs all escaped, however the upper two floors of the house were extensively damaged.
