New London Man Sentenced for Sexual Assault, Groton Home Invasion
The victim of his assault and her father lashed out as he was sentenced to years in prison.

NEW LONDON, CT- A man was sentenced to seven years in prison for a prolonged period of sexual assault, as well as playing a role in an unrelated Groton home invasion, The Day reported.
Owen DeCosta, 19, pleaded guilty and was originally sentenced to 20 years, but will be suspended after seven years and followed by 10 years of strict probation under a plea deal, according to The Day. The victim of his assault was in court with her parents and read a lengthy victim impact statement.
She cited anxiety, depression and suicidal feelings as a result of DeCosta’s actions, as reported by The Day. Her father also lambasted DeCosta during the lengthy and emotional trial, who reportedly thought 70 years would be a more appropriate sentence.
