New London Police Arrest Man on Bank Robbery Charges

NEW LONDON, CT - Police said they arrested a man Thursday charged with robbing a bank and stealing more than $200, according to a release.

At approximately 10:47 a.m., New London Police Department responded to calls from the Chelsea Groton Savings Bank on Montauk Avenue reporting a bank robbery. The bank reported that a black man with a large build between 45 and 50 years of age entered the bank, handed a note to a teller and left with approximately $220.

The suspect was described as having a "salt & pepper" goatee, wearing a dark colored hooded sweat shirt and jeans. Although no weapon was displayed, police said the suspect had indicated he had a weapon.

Officers located the suspect in a nearby building within approximately thirty minutes after the incident. Anthony Council, 46, Groton was arrested and charged with robbery and larceny.

Police are still investigating the situation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.
