New London Police Chief Decision on Local Event Attendance Overruled by Mayor
The local event was aimed at honoring city police officers and emergency dispatchers.

NEW LONDON, CT – Police Chief Margaret Ackley’ decision to skip a local event was overruled by the mayor last month, The Day reported.
Mayor Michael Passero overruled the chief’s decision to skip the event aimed at honoring city police officers and emergency dispatchers, according to The Day. Ackely’s reasoning stemmed from actions at a past event.
Ackley said in a letter that a past event at the Elks Club had ended with them running out of food and insulting police officers and their families, The Day reported. Passero reportedly stepped in after finding out about the letter and hearing complaints from several department members.
