NEW LONDON, CT — Police seized two dirt bikes Saturday and one scooter for illegal operation and violation of a city ordinance.

Two arrests were made, and police said additional arrests are pending in what they termed a "coordinated initiative."

"The New London Police Department is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all residents and deterring illegal activities that threaten public safety," police wrote on Facebook.

Police and communities across the state are cracking down on illegal use dirt bikes, ATVs, and other similar vehicles due to dangerous driving and noise complaints.

Milford's mayor has proposed a ban on such vehicles along with a $2,000 fine for violators.

In Wallingford, six juveniles were arrested for reckless dirt bike riding over the summer.
