New London Woman Charged with Larceny, Unemployment Compensation Fraud
The arrest is the result of an investigation into a complaint by the Connecticut Department of Labor.

NEW LONDON, CT - A New London woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with fraudulently collecting almost $10,000 in Unemployment Compensation benefits.
Fallyn V. Fonville-Smith, 31, of Farmington Avenue was arrested by Unemployment Compensation Fraud Unit inspectors. He was charged with larceny in the first degree by defrauding a public community and unemployment compensation fraud.
The arrest is the result of an investigation into a complaint by the Connecticut Department of Labor, according to a release.

The investigation alleges that Fonville-Smith fraudulently collected $9,722 in unemployment benefits from June through December 2015. Inspectors said the suspect failed to report the wages she earned or under-reporting how much she earned.
Fonville-Smith was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 12.

Larceny by defrauding a public community is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine. Unemployment compensation fraud in excess of $500 is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
