Over 9,000 Pounds Of Food Donated To New London Food Center

Mystic Aquarium officials said the weight of the food donated was equal to that of four and a half beluga whales.

MYSTIC, CT - While many enjoyed taking in the lights and spectacle during Olde Mistick Village's "Festival of Lights" on Friday, they also happily took part in spreading goodwill to those in need this holiday season. News 8 reports that approximately 7,259 guests donated non-perishable food items during the event.

The items were then donated to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center in New London, according to News 8. Mystic Aquarium officials said they delivered 9,168 pounds of non-perishable food from the event.

Aquarium officials said the weight of the food donated was equal to that of four and a half beluga whales, News 8 reported. An additional $517 was also collected for the food center during the festival.
