Sadly, another summer month is about to come to a close. But ’s “Goodbye July Edition” of its weekly roundup of events suggests that there’s plenty to check out. If you’ve got a free evening tonight, you can start things off with a free movie. The Elephant Man screens at at 8 p.m.

Music dominates the schedule, starting with a show by Fatal Film and the introduction of the band Slander. This starts at 10 p.m. at the , and the cover is $5. Sunny Morning La La plays their regular set of ukulele-infused family music at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at . The Coast Guard Band gives a free big band jazz show at 2 p.m. on the same day at . And Lee Renaldo, a composer and one of the founding members of Sonic Youth, comes to the Hygienic Art Park at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for a performance highlighted by light and visual displays.

It’s also a good week for the art world, starting with a painting demonstration by astrophysicist and artist Edward Belbruno; this runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Hygienic Art. begins a “Meet the Artist” program, allowing visitors to meet the gallery’s artist in residence; stop in at 6 p.m. on Saturday to chat with Honduran artist Santos Arzu Quioto. At the same time, opens the exhibit “Urban Jungle” by artist Tom Ryan; this opening runs through 9 p.m.

A few events should also appeal to the history buffs out there. Jennifer Emerson takes on the persona of Jane Perkins from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday to give tours of the ; these tours continue through the summer. It’s also an open house day at the , and the building is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also at 11 a.m., the vintage baseball league plays against Newtown using rules from the 1860s; the game takes place at .

New London’s waterfront venues remain active with a pair of events. Children are invited to take part in ’s silly hat parade at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. All participants will receive a treat bag and small toy, and the event will also include music and fireworks. A to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will run from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, with a check-in stop at .

Finally, you can also check out a pair of theater events in the coming week. Expressiones hosts Teatro Latino de New London, an evening of song, dance, and acts from plays in both English and Spanish. This begins at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Missoula Children’s Theatre continues its performances at the , this week performing Hansel and Gretel. The show starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and tickets are $10.
