Police Arrest New London Man Suspected of Parking Lot Burglary: Report

Police said they recognized the suspect's behavior consistent with a person about to commit a burglary.

WATERFORD, CT – Police arrested a suspected burglar Thursday after he was found checking out various cars in a parking lot.

Officers noted a silver 2002 Volkswagen Beetle enter a local parking lot police were surveying due to a rise of burglaries in unattended parking areas. The driver then exited his car and began to walk around the parking lot, peering into vehicles, according to a release.

Police said they recognized the suspect's behavior consistent with a person about to commit a burglary. Burglar tools and a cell phone were located on the suspect, later identified as 41-year old Jose Garcia of New London.

Garcia's vehicle was found to be unregistered and had no insurance, and its plate was recently stolen from a vehicle in New London. His cell phone was also determined to be stolen from another recent vehicle burglary.

Garcia was arrested and charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, larceny and possession of a stolen marker plate among other charges. He was released on bond and given an unspecified court date.
